My buddy Rob at // m u s i c r o b o t // has such a similar taste in music as me… I probably couldn’t have written about Matt and Kim’s latest album any better!
Take a listen to what R had to say and check his blog often!
Song: Red Paint
Artist: Matt & Kim
Matt & Kim get their Ratatat on in this song off of their 3rd LP “Sidewalks.” Much to the delight of their fans (old and new), the Brooklyn-based duo are striking while the iron is hot. Their second LP “Grand” broadened their audience with great music videos for “Lessons Learned” and “Daylight,” and catchy tracks featured in tv shows like NBC’s Community. A year later Brooklyners, Matt & Kim drop Sidewalks, their most polished effort yet. Some might argue that it’s too polished, and that they miss the lo-fi goodness of the band’s debut album. Some of the tracks do sound like they could be on a (really sick) christmas album, and Matt’s super-nerd shriek isn’t as present, but it’s still a solid effort. The new ether-like silence behind Matt’s vocals does remind me of Tom DeLonge on Blink182’s final LP, but it’s all good because each of the tracks will be great to sing along to live. Be sure to check out “Cameras,” “Northeast,” and “Ice Melts.” Fans looking for the old-school sound give “Silver Tiles” a listen first.
